Simply, you can't identify if an item is tainted, but there are some very keen eyes in the forum.Ĭlick to expand.Any trade with him makes all of your stuff illegit (assuming it isn't quarantined - if you wanted to run two separate installs and the characters/items never interacted with one another, that would be a way to do it.) The forum can't ban certain aspects of a mod, especially one with editing features, so it's banned due to the illegit (SPF standards) features. It's banned from tournaments, community tournaments and trades because it's a complete change to the game (editing stats/skills) and is considered as a hack. With Plugy, there is the editing features to begin with. If characterA uses a tainted item, or even joins a game with a tainted character (B), char A is now tainted, as are his items, finds, and any character he interacts with. There is potential that without that rune, a runeword or item may not have been found, and thus there's potential for an alternate outcome. All future items, the character and current items are tainted with RRM. In RRM, that rune was found, picked up and used. IE: RRM is different to Vanilla because of the potential that a rune (any quality) could have been missed. In one case, it's the potential that something wouldn't happen.
It's the effect a cheat, hack, editor, or mod has on the character and subsequent items. I don't like saying this, but taint isn't a visual effect.
:wink3:įAQ's - The 'Game Affecting Techinques' and 'Game Mods and You' are in the stickies I think CG was referring to. Either way, I shall accept your decision. So, you may choose to ignore the Post Script although my curiosity will be unquenched. That being said, I get the feeling that PlugY isn't very popular around here.
Also, if I do know how to identify whether or not an item has been tainted, I can then trade with the forum members the items my friend may have given me - of course, I'm talking about the ones I will have identified as untainted. I may potentially be trading with him and so I would like to know. Reason being: over the Christmas holidays, I was considering to get a friend to quit Battle.Net try PlugY instead. Perhaps I don't even know what to look for!Īnd while we're on the topic of PlugY, is there a way I can tell if PlugY has done anything to my Perfect Gem? I'm just curious. Maybe I am not looking closely enough, but I cannot seem to locate the Sticky that you are mentioning. I have been looking around the forums - specifically the Single Player ones - all the while snooping here and there with the search function (searching "PlugY"). what exactly is everyone's definition of "tainted"? Is it a result of some kind of modification to the item codes? I'm not that good with technical Green: so soon - not that I ever want it to!Įdit: Oh and I might just add. As a newcomer to this great place, I don't want to have any negative light shed on me. does that mean my character is now "tainted"? If so, please let me know so I can remake a new one! :wink3: I'm not such a high level so I won't mind restarting.Ĭan someone tell me how I can tell if a character or item is "tainted"? Is there a sure-fire method? Because I'm getting more and more nervous by the minute. Upon seeing a few comments prior to this post regarding "tainting", I then went back into Diablo II to remove the Perfect Gem from the Extended region of the Stash and put it back where it originally was.
Oh, and by the way - this is very important for me to know - when I used my peeker character to have a look at the Extended Stash I did do a few things.Ģ) Click the Page Left and Page Right functions of the Extended Stash to look aroundģ) Click a Perfect Gem from my stash and place it in the newly Extended regionĪfter doing those three things, I came back to the forums to have a look at any responses I might have gathered. That being said, I would still like to hear more opinion about this issue. If there is to be no room for comprimise - even with me disabling everything - then I shall promptly remove PlugY. I think this is where the discussion may get complicated!
I really want to trade but at the same time, I'd like to keep PlugY. I am very nervous about the whole PlugY thing jeopardising my chances to trade with another forum member. As of now, I still have not exit town or clicked a merchant.
